The reason for this site - one of my reasons to live - was born this day in Tupelo.
I'd say he wasnt one in a billion, he was THE one.

1946

Elvis have reached the age of 11 years. From his parents he gets, instead of a bicycle or gun, a guitar which his mother Gladys buys in the hardware store.

1947

For Elvis' 12 birthday Vernon buys a stripping book of George Price. His father wrote in the book: May your birthday be sprinkled through with joy and love and good times too.
'Daddy 08-01-47'. Elvis saved this book and it's known Elvis brought this book with him to Germany.

1955

On his 20:th birthday Elvis performed in Schreveport. Louisiana Hayride.

1956

Elvis and Red West flies to Memphis.

1957

The Memphis Draft Board holds a press conference to declare Elvis Presley a "1A," or fit for Army service.
Elvis celebrated his birthday at home with his parents. While he was home Elvis stopped by to see Dixie Locke, who was recently married

1958

Elvis was photographed on the stairs inside Graceland, with a March of Dimes poster girl.
She was waiting for more than 2 hours before the picture was taken.




1959

Elvis celebrated his 24:th birthday in Germany

1960

Elvis was interviewed by Dick Clark on this birthday for American Bandstand.
Elvis spoke about his upcoming recording session, his appearance on the Frank Sinatra television show and his new Paramount picture, titled G.I. Blues. Later in the evening Elvis celebrated at a local recreation center with about 200 guests, including Priscilla. Joe Esposito and the group gave Elvis a trophy with the inscription: " Elvis Presley. Most Valuable Player. Bad Nauheim Sunday Afternoon Football Association, 1959."

1961

For Elvis' 26th birthday, the cast and crew of his latest film,
Wild In The Country, presents him with a joke plaque inscribed "Happy Birthday,
King Karate," a reference to Presley's penchant for the martial art.
Elvis signs a five-picture deal directly with producer Hal Wallis,
calling for him to act in one picture per year for five years. However,
it is not his only film commitment.

1962

Elvis turns 27 while vacationing on one of his many trips to Las Vegas, throwing a (private) party at the Sahara hotel to celebrate.

1964

Elvis celebrated his 29:th birthday quietly at home.

1965

Elvis turns 30, an event not unnoticed by several Memphis newspapers, who wonder if this, especially in the light of the British
Invasion, isn't the end of an era. For his part, The King celebrates quietly with Priscilla and family at Graceland.

1966

Elvis turns 31 and holds another closed-theater screening in Memphis' Memphian moviehouse,
this time the classic comedy epic It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. That same day, RCA sends a congratulatory telegram, somewhat suspiciously claiming that 1965 was "the biggest of all the ten years you have spent with us."

1967

Elvis has a quiet gathering at Graceland for his 32nd birthday, with the only outside guest being the Jordanaires' Gordon Stoker.


1968

Elvis celebrated his 33th birthday at Graceland, attending the movies at the Memphian later in the evening.

1969

Elvis celebrated his 34th birthday at Graceland.

1971

On his 36:th birthday Elvis goes on another spending binge, purchasing a number of law enforcement-related equipment, including guns, holsters, handcuffs, flashing lights and chemical weapon. Elvis had a police radio installed in his Mercedes.
Over the next few days he would purchase a number of Smith & Wesson pistols as well as additional police equipment.

1972

Elvis invites Congressional aide Joyce Bova -- a new flame he met while married to Priscilla -- to Memphis for his 37th birthday.

1974

On the occasion of his thirty-ninth birthday, "Elvis Presley Day" is declared in both the city and county of Memphis, followed by a parade down Elvis Presley Boulevard.

1975

Distraught over the landmark of his 40th birthday, Elvis spends the day in his bedroom at Graceland without visitors, where he has been since at least Christmas.

1976

On his birthday, Elvis and company are skiing in Vail, Colorado. Presley, however, uses only a snowmobile, and only at night. President Ford's daughter, Susan, complains, leading the National Enquirer to sniff around and publish bizarre stories of Elvis snowmobiling at night.
Elvis spent the evening of his birthday with Jerry Schilling and Myrna Smith.
There was a great deal of tension on this vacation, mostly due to Elvis changes of mood and Elvis was not feeling very well this evening until Myrna revealed that she had not seen one of his favorite recent films, Across 110th Street. Elvis recited every line of dialogue from the picture.



1977

Elvis celebrates his 42nd and last birthday in Palm Springs with girlfriend Ginger Alden and her sister, Rosemary.

Elvis performed in "The Hight School Auditorium" Midland, Texas. ( 8:00 PM ) the crowd was 1600

1963

Fearing overexposure (but mainly because it doesn't pay anything), Colonel Tom Parker turns down a TV guest star spot for Elvis to promote his next film.

Waylon Jennings, future Buddy Holly bassist and "outlaw" Country star,
meets Elvis for the first time at a show in Lubbock, TX.

1956

Elvis performed in "The High School" Randolph, Mississippi.

1957

Elvis performs for the third and last time on CBS' Ed Sullivan Show, singing "Don't Be Cruel," "Too Much,"
"When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again," and "Peace In The Valley.
" Censors determine that Presley must only be shot from the waist up;
Elvis mocks this rule by suddenly breaking into wild gyrations at the end of "Don't Be Cruel." As a gesture to the Colonel, Sullivan calls the singer over afterward and informs the television audience: "I wanted to say to Elvis Presley and the country that this is a real decent, fine boy...
We've never had a pleasanter experience on our show with a big name than we've had with you... You're thoroughly all right." It is the last live television performance Elvis will ever give. This day Elvis poses for "March of Dimes" with Joanne Wilson, New York City's March of Dimes Poster Girl '56












1961

Elvis celebrates his 26:th birthday ( 2 days in advance ) at the set of "Wild in the country".




1967

The barn behind Graceland was renovated to accommodate the many new horses.
Soon it would be named: the House of the Rising Sun.

1969

During a meeting between producer Felton Jarvis and Elvis, Marty Lacker proposes -- not for the first time -- working with producer Chips Moman at American Recording Studios, just across Memphis in a poor (and some say, dangerous) part of town.
Elvis finally agrees: Moman, a former Stax producer, has opened American in order to produce a more country version of the soul he oversaw at his old label. The mixture would seem a perfect fit for Elvis; Moman immediately reschedules a Neil Diamond session to give Elvis an in.

1970

Elvis flew to Los Angeles, accompanied by Priscilla and Lisa-Marie, to prepare himself for his upcoming Las Vegas engagement.

1960

Elvis was granted leave from January 5, through January 17. He also got permission to travel to Paris.

1970

Elvis rents out the Memphis Memphian theater for another of his many all-night movie matinees, attended only by Elvis, his family, and members of the "Memphis Mafia."
Tonight, he views the as-yet-unreleased George C. Scott biopic Patton, which so mesmerizes the King that it becomes his favorite film, edging out the previous titleholder, Dr. Strangelove.
As is his habit with a film he loves, Elvis will memorize every line, especially the famous opening "pep talk" the General gives to his troops.

1971

Elvis returned from Dallas to Memphis.

Elvis performes at the Community center, Jonesboro AR ( 8:00 PM )

1957

Elvis drove with his Cadillac Eldorado to the Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis for a pre-induction physical for his draft status. He was accompanied by Cliff Gleaves and Dottie Harmony. Later in the day Dottie flew back to Los Angeles and Elvis took the train to New York for his third appearance at the Ed Sullivan show.







1959

Elvis called the Colonel at 5.00 a.m. and woke the Colonel with his call.
It turned out in an hour-long chat and the Colonel joked that the call interrupted
his dream about Elvis getting an early army release, but that now he didn't get to know how the dream ended.

1961

The filming of Wild In The Country was resumed.

1971

Accompanied by Charlie Hodge, Sonny West, Richard Davis and Bill Morris, Elvis flew to Dallas, where he registered at the Royal Coach Motor Hotel under the name of Jon Burrows.

1973

In a very good mood Elvis flew to Los Angeles on his way to Hawaii.
Last November he was told to loose some weight and he and Red West each
lost 25 pounds on a crash diet Elvis picked up in Las Vegas.

1976

Elvis, girlfriend Linda Thompson and 17 others fly to Denver after the King decides, on a whim, to vacation there for his 41st birthday. Members of the Denver police force help them find accommodations.
Elvis dispatched Joe Esposito, Jerry Kennedy and Ron Pietrafeso to Vail to find enough rental houses and condos for the group.

1977

Elvis, Ginger, and Ginger's sister Rosemary, flew to Palm Springs to celebrate Elvis 42th birthday on January 8.

1956

Elvis makes 2 shows this day ( 6 and 8 PM ) in Von Theatre, Boonville MS

1964

Elvis went shopping for clothes at Lansky's.

1967

For a little while now horses were very popular with Elvis and the boys.
They only rent out the Memphian for movies four times this month.
Almost everything had to do with horseback riding these days.
During the next 2 weeks Elvis would not only purchase his own favorite horse,
which he renamed in Rising Sun, but he also bought a horse for his father.

1968

For the second time in his career, Elvis makes a formal complaint to RCA about the
mastering of his latest single, in this case "Guitar Man," which has again been
remixed in the process to bring Elvis' vocal way out front.

1969

Elvis is back in the studio and records songs like "In the Ghetto". The king is back and he will stay on his throne for the remaining years of his short life.



1970

Elvis spent over $3,900 to remodel 2 rooms and a bathroom in the basement of Graceland
to be used as an apartment for Charlie Hodge.

1974

Due to toothache Elvis went to the dentist.

1977

Elvis flew Ginger and her family to Harrison, Arkansas, to attend the funeral of Ginger's grandfather.

Elvis - january 2

1956

Elvis and Red West are back in Memphis. They start a tour with Johnny Cash and others. Elvis performed in "The High School" Charleston, Mississippi.

1958

Elvis got a letter from the Colonel, who lectured him about the responsibilities of being a star. Elvis had complained about requests for local appearances and wanted his manager to deal with that.

1959

Elvis called George Klein in Memphis. He made regular calls to friends at home, especially Anita Wood.

1960

Elvis recieved the leave of absence request that allowed him to spend two weeks in France in January of 1960.



1961

Elvis flew to Los Angeles with Sonny, Charlie, Alan and Gene Smith.

1967

This was the date of Elvis' new agreement with the Colonel,
which for the first time explicitly recognized that they were engaged in what amounted to a partnership or joint venture.
