Elvis - september 30

1955

James Dean dies. Elvis hear the news at the radio in Gladewater Hotel.

1956

Elvis, Gene Smith and Nick Adams flew back to Los Angeles, where Elvis and Gene checked
into the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

1969

Again Elvis was at the movies, watching Midnight Cowboy. Although at home for some time now,
Elvis did not often appear at the Graceland gates to meet his fans.

1974

Elvis performed at the University of Notre Dame's Athletic and Convention Center,
South Bend, Indiana at 8:30 p.m. The crowd was 12301 and Elvis wore "Mad tiger" suit with
original belt.

1955

Elvis performed with Louvin Brothers in "The Aubrey High School ", Arkansas

1956

Elvis and Nick Adams returned to the Memphis Fairgrounds for the Mid-South Fair
and Elvis went on stage for a quick bow with Irish tenor Dennis Day.

1960

Elvis had a luncheon interview at the set of Flaming Star with Vernon Scott.
Together with some other friends from Memphis, Gary Pepper, a 27 year old MS victim,
whom Elvis called his friend. Gary stayed in the inner circle of Memphis'
friends until his death.

1963

The soundtrack recording for Kissin Cousins began. They started at 7.00 p.m. till 3.30 a.m. Elvis did not record his part because he had a cold.
He did came over though to meet the director, Gene Nelson, who also played congas with the band.

1966

Elvis arrived too late for a wardrobe fitting, and went for lunch in his dressing room.
Therefore he was way too late for his recording session. They even noted that in the
production notes. Elvis had an appointment at the studio to get his hair cut.
Instead of that he had his hair cut at home and arrived to late for his recording session. However, by midnight he had completed several songs, including She's A Machine.

1974

Elvis performed at the Olympia Stadium, Detroit, Michigan at 2.30 p.m. The crowd was 17105 and Elvis wore "Chinese dragon" suit with original belt.
but due to illness Elvis only performed there for 30 minutes







1975

Through Georg Klein Elvis got the message singer Jackie Wilson suffered a stroke.
Immediately Elvis sent a check to pay for the hospital expenses and medical bills.

Elvis performed in "The B&B Club" Gobler, Missouri

1968

Dewey Philips, the DJ who was the first to play Elvis' records on the air,
died. Elvis told a local reporter: " I am awfully hurt and feel very sorry about Dewey's death.
We were very good friends, and I have always appreciated everything he did for me in
helping me in my career in the early days".

1971

Elvis returned to Los Angeles, where he would only spent the night, to leave for Palm Springs
the next day.

1972

Elvis flew to Palm Springs with Linda Thompson for a long weekend.

1974

Elvis performed at the University Of Maryland Cole Fieldhouse, College Park, Maryland 8:30 p.m.
The crowd was 15000 and Elvis wore "Blue Swirl" suit with original belt.

Elvis - september 27




1957

Elvis drove to Tupelo with Anita Wood and his parents and some friends.
In the local paper Elvis was called "the best ambassador any town could have"
and urged all townspeople to give him a warm welcome. Elvis performed at the Fairgrounds,
Tupelo, for the benefit of the planned Elvis Presley Youth Center.
There was a crowd of 12,000 people and he was accompanied by Hank Garland,
D.J. Fontana and Chuck Wiggington, a friend of D.J., on bass.

1966

Elvis had a meeting with Hal Wallis och John Rich about his next movie "Wasy come, easy go"

1974


Elvis performed at the University of Maryland Cole Fieldhouse
College Park, Maryland. Tjis uearr 15000 och Elvis bar "Peakock" suit with originalbelt.
The media as well as the fans were puzzled about
Elvis performance throughout this tour. Tony Brown however
witnessed Elvis getting out of his limousine, fall to his knees and even
sleepwalk through the entire show.

1955

Elvis performed in "The Junior High School Gym" Gilmer, Texas

1956

Elvis drove to Tupelo with his parents, Nick Adams and Barbara Hearn.
Elvis had to appear at the Mississippi Alabama Fair And Diary Show.
He performed here for the first time at the age of 10. Elvis was wearing a
blue velvet shirt, made for him by Natalie Wood's dressmaker.
Tammy Wynette, at the age of 14, watched the show from the first row.
The show was filmed by Fox Movietone News, but the bad audio made it almost a "silent" movie.







1957

Elvis and some friends spent the evening at the Fairgrounds, attracting a huge crowd.

1964

Elvis and the whole caravan left for Hollywood.

1968

Elvis went to the Memphian, like almost every night for this period in Graceland.
He was accompanied by Priscilla, Sonny, Gee Gee, Charlie and Lamar.
They watched The Thomas Crown Affair, with Steve McQueen and Hang 'Em High,
with Clint Eastwood.

1974

Elvis flew out of Memphis to begin his 4th tour of 1974.

1976

Elvis flew from Palm Springs to Memphis.

1954

Elvis performed in "Eagle`s Nest" Memphis





1956

Elvis and Nick Adams went to see Mildred Scrivener,
Elvis' senior-class homeroom teacher at Humes High.
Elvis donated $900 to the school for new uniforms for
its ROTC program. Elvis received a telegram from RCA with official
congratulations for an industry first when additional orders made
the single Love Me Tender a gold record before it was even released.
RCA got 918230 orders before even releasing the single

1964

Elvis watched a movie again: Dr. Strangelove at the Memphian.
He had just hired Mike Keaton to come to California with the group and in
the very early morning he asked Jerry Schilling too to come with them.

1968

Elvis flew home to Memphis and arrived at 6.00 a.m.

1969

Elvis flew to Nashville with Charlie Hodge to add some vocal overdubs on several songs.

Elvis performes at "Ellis Auditorium" in Memphis, Tennessee

1956

Elvis flew to Memphis, together with Nick Adams and Gene Smith.
On this trip he used the name Clint Reno, just like the character from his first movie,
Love Me Tender. On the Memphis airport Elvis met Heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano.
They exchanged autographs.
In the evening Elvis was seen at the Memphis Fairgrounds with Nick Adams.

1964

Elvis had a chest X ray and some blood tests and again didn't attend the movies.
His schedule for Los Angeles was delayed.

1970

Elvis returned to Memphis, where he watched a movie at the Crosstown,
before leaving for Los Angeles the next day.

1973

In the mobile recording truck RCA had sent to Elvis home in Palm Springs the recording
continued from 7.00 p.m. till 3.15 a.m. with Elvis completing Are You Sincere and I Miss You.
RCA just got enough for one album now.

1955

Elvis performed in "The Civic Auditorium" Kingsport, Tennessee.

1958

The troop train arrived in Brooklyn at 9.00 a.m. Elvis held a press conference and
once again expressed his hope that the fans won't forget him.
He walked up the gangplank of the USS Randall 8 times, carrying his duffel bag,
so the press could all get a good shot.
During the crossing Elvis and Charlie became good friends. Charlie cheered him up.













1962

Elvis was at Radio Recorders from 11.30 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. to complete soundtrack recording
for "It Happened At The World's Fair". Don Robertson, songwriter, was invited to play
at the session, either piano or organ.

1964

Elvis called Dr. Charles Clarke, because he wasn't well.
Clarke came out to Graceland and submitted a bill of $10 for a house call.

1969

Elvis flew back home to Memphis arriving very early in the morning.
He remained in Memphis until 5 October, except for some brief trips to Nashville and Dallas.

1970

A day late and in a terrible mood Elvis arrived at the RCA studio in Nashville at 7.00 p.m.
The entire evening Elvis tried to speed up things and in 6 hours time they recorded both
sides of a single. (Where Did They Go, Lord and Rags To Riches) They also completed the
2 songs left to complete the country album.
Due to absence James Burton was replaced by Eddie Hinton on lead guitar.

1973

RCA wanted Elvis to complete at least 4 vocals for tracks Felton Jarvis had already recorded.
So with the approval of the Colonel, there was a mobile recording truck sent to Elvis' home in
Palm Springs. Elvis however was busy with his new group Voice.
After spending a lot of time with Voice for their demos, Elvis finally completed the
overdubbing of one of his own song: Sweet Angeline at 3.00 a.m.

1953

Elvis goes at work at Precision Tool again. He works with a Shred machine an a handdrill.
He gets $1,55 an hour. Elvis does this work untill March 1954.

1955

Elvis performed in "The Memorial Auditorium" Raleigh, North Carolina

1958

Elvis had received a copy of Poems That Touch The Heart from another soldier on the train,
on its way to New York. It somehow gave him some consolation on the long ride.
Somewhere along the way Elvis met with a little soldier, named Charlie Hodge.
Later on Charlie confessed that he was "bound and determined" to meet Elvis.

1964

Elvis, always drawn to uniforms and badges, was appointed "Special Deputy Sheriff".
He told Sheriff Bill Morris: I've always been interested in law enforcement and in fact
even applied for a job as a Memphis policeman at age of 19.




1966

Elvis signed a lease for one year for an very modern house in Palm Springs.

1970

Elvis was made an honorary deputy sheriff of Shelby County by sheriff Roy. C . Nixon.

1971

Elvis went to Memphis again and watched movies every night that he was at home either at
the Memphian or the Crosstown.

1973

Elvis was visited by Lisa-Marie, who flew into Palm Springs along with Elvis'
dentist Max Shapiro.

1974

Because Elvis was still in Memphis, Elvis made, with the help of Linda,
detailed plans for his new upcoming karate movie, to be called: The New Gladiators.
Elvis wanted this movie to promote his own philosophy that karate is a way for a
person to help himself.

1949

The Presley `s move now to two-room house, existing from a kitchen and live/sleep room.
The house is the ground of the apartment block-system,
committed on the Winchester street 185.
The Presley `s live on no. 328. The building has been confessed better as
Lauderdale Courts. In this house Minnie Mae draw at the Presley `s in.
Ruby Black, the mother of Bill Black, is the neighbour.
Hiring is $35 per month.

1955

Elvis performed in "The Danville Fairgrounds" Danville, Virginia

1957

Elvis appeared on Memphis television station WKNO to promote traffic safety and driver
education.






1958

While Elvis was on the troop train bound for New York,
several friends caught up with the train in Memphis,
during refuelling. Elvis was introduced to a pretty girl from Mississippi,
Jane Wilbanks, whom he soon called from Germany.

Elvis performed in "The WRVA Theater" Richmond, Virginia.

1958

Elvis left Fort Hort Hood at 7.00 p.m. He went on the troop train bounded for the Brooklyn
Army Terminal in New York.



1960

Just like before Elvis complained to the Colonel about RCA.
They seemed to have remixed the sound of one of his songs.
This time the upcoming single: Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Elvis didn't like the sound of his own voice brought to the front at the
expense of the backing vocals.
He even threatened to go back in the studio to record it again

1961

Back in Memphis Elvis signed for a new Schimmel piano and organ from
Jack Marshall Pianos and Organs.

1973

The finger Elvis had broken during his last stay in Las Vegas still bothered him and he
went to an orthopaedist. There was a X-ray made and the finger was cast.

1974

Linda's sister in law gave birth to a little girl at the Methodist Hospital.
Elvis insisted not only to see Louise but also wanted to visit the labor room where
he was recognized even with his surgical mask. One woman present said:
Oh my God, you look like Elvis Presley. Elvis declared: Honey I AM Elvis Presley.

1976

Hank Garland, a 26 guitar player, who had been working in Nashville signed on as Elvis
new guitar player and Vernon Presley sent Scotty and Bill their final payment.
Their resignation was accepted as of September 21.

1958

Elvis spent his last night at before leaving for the army in Killeen with Vernon, Anita,
Edie Fadal, Lamar Fike, Gene and Junior Smith and Red West.
There were also some fan club presidents present. It was an emotional night

1967

Elvis went to Nashville again, to Studio B, to record 3 songs for his soundtrack of
his next film, Stay Away Joe. Elvis was not involved in the song selection and was so
discouraged by the lack of quality of the movie material that he made Felton Jarvis swear
that he would never release one of its songs on record.

1973

Elvis visited an ophthalmologist in Palm Springs
