At the last minute there was a soundtrack session set up for Elvis' new film, Harum Scarum.
Due to the hurried manner in which the session was scheduled, Elvis' regular accompanists were not available ant their places were taken by Charlie McCoy on guitar, Henry Strzelecki on bass and Kenny Buttrey on drums. They were joined by Rufus Long and Ralph Strobel on flute and oboe in order to lend A middle
Eastern touch to the soundtrack. This was Elvis' first visit to a recording studio in 8 months and his distraction and disaffection with the
material was obvious. He broke off at 3.30 a.m. after only 4 hours in which he did 38 dreary takes of Shake That Tambourine.
